I've finally started making major headway in my firewood inventory, and a big part of this progress is thanks to the Japa 365 firewood processor. After initially falling behind, I'm thrilled to report that I now have 25 IBC totes filled with business-ready firewood, and the number is steadily growing.
Installation Insights
Setting up the Japa 365 just downstream of my log pile has been a game changer. I used some spare pallets to build a catch basin that neatly collects splits from the processor. From this basin, I'm able to quickly and efficiently stack firewood into elevated IBC totes. Additionally, I crafted a convenient gate from 2x6 boards and custom brackets, making stacking even easier. Having a helper, especially my wife, stack firewood while I process logs has notably boosted productivity.
Performance
The Japa 365 has drastically improved my efficiency. I'm running a six-way wedge, which easily handles logs up to about 12 inches in diameter, especially logs without large knots. Within about 40 minutes, including setup and camera adjustments, I was able to process and stack nearly a full cord. This means I'm consistently averaging just over a cord per hour—an impressive feat considering manual log handling.
With the processor and my new inventory system, I've transitioned from a cumbersome spreadsheet to a dynamic Notion database. This system tracks everything from tote labeling (using durable nylon cow tags) to species, location, age, and sales data. It's transformed how I organize my firewood business.
Final Thoughts
The Japa 365 is genuinely accelerating my firewood production, enabling me to get ahead of demand efficiently. With the current setup, I'm optimistic about maintaining and even increasing inventory levels. If you're considering improving your firewood operations, this processor and an organized inventory database like the one I’ve developed are invaluable tools.
